A podium and an award for the SEarCH team 🏆

Glad to announce that the SEarCH team obtained excellent results at the SKA Data Challenge 3b: Inference. Each team had to provide constraints on the neutral hydrogen fraction for 4 different mock SKA-Low observations (named PS1, PS2, PS3 and IM1). We proposed 2 methods to infer the neutral hydrogen fraction, using Simulation-Based Inference and Deep Convolutional Networks. We were ranked 3rd (both method ex-aequo) in the inference on the PS2 mock, and 1st and 4th on the PS3 date. See here for all rankings of the SDC3b results. The image (from the SDC3b website) below compares the constraints obtained by each team on the PS2 data.

SDC3b PS2D Results

The SEarCH team is a group of Swiss and Swedish early career scientists that compete in the SKA Data Challenges. I joined the group right after my arrival at EPFL, for the SDC3b. During the latest SKACH Days in Winterthur, we were awarded the Outstanding Inter-Institutional Project Award.
